Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 6:30 PM, the Accademia di Romania in Rome, in partnership with Sandro Teti Editore (Rome) and under the patronage of the Embassy of Romania in Italy, presented online—via the institution’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/AccademiaDiRomania/)—the first 2021 edition of the literary series “I Mercoledì Letterari.”
This edition was dedicated to writer Doina Ruști and her novel The Red Little Man (Omulețul roșu), which was launched in Italian bookstores in a new, revised, and expanded Italian edition.
Doina Ruști’s novel The Red Little Man, published in Italian by the renowned Roman publishing house Sandro Teti Editore, in the translation of Professor Roberto Merlo (University of Turin), became available in Italian bookstores starting April 22, 2021.
Alongside the author, the book launch featured Professor Roberto Merlo, the translator of the volume, and Sandro Teti, the publisher. H.E. Alfredo Durante Mangoni also delivered a brief address.
The event was supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute through the Accademia di Romania in Rome and was promoted by TVR International, Radio România Actualități, Radio România Cultural, and Radio România Internațional.

“Through The Red Little Man, I wanted to express my views on the novel as a genre and on narrative change. It is a story that gathers fragments of other stories along its course—comments, letters, and voices. I had previously read many experiments in labyrinthine writing and came out of the neo-mannerist literature of the 1980s, from which I wanted to distance myself decisively. For this very reason, The Red Little Manfollows a simple narrative line: an online love story. Yet within the construction of this plot, I embedded another story—the story of an entire universe.”

The event also marked the author’s first interview in Italy, published by the newspaper Il Libero, further confirming the novel’s international resonance.
